The Dizzy Birds are a traditional jazz band formed by six young international musicians based in Berlin. Coming from different musical backgrounds, each one of them shares the same passion for the oldest jazz from New Orleans, born at the beginning of the last century.
After gaining recognition in the swing dancing community and club scene of Berlin, the band is now moving on from the streets and undergrounds to jazz festivals and international dance events in Europe. Within only a few years of existence, they have became one of the hottest jazz bands in the scene, often collaborating with some major New Orleans names such as Meschiya Lake, Russell Welch or Joseph Faison. The band resurrects the original rough and powerful sound of early jazz, where music was meant to be hot, entertaining and, above all, danceable.
Inspired by the greatest composers such as Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five, Sidney Bechet, and many others, the Dizzy Birds deliver fresh interpretations of their own arrangements, exciting all kinds of audiences from dancers, jazz connoisseurs to party crowds.
Their latest work, Because we can, present an album chock-full of musical gems and features the fabulous voice of Meschiya Lake straight out of New Orleans.
” Great arrangements, hot solos, perfectly in tune, and above all, a unique sound […] The Dizzy Birds is a wonderful young jazz band, playing early Traditional jazz, in their own (very Traditional) manner. I urge you all to seek them out, and take heart that, with groups such as this, our music is in safe hands. ”
